A new partnership for festival artists who want to keep making work and doing shows while Brakebee runs the online side.

Brakebee has opened a new partnership for working artists. Managed Lines puts Brakebee's team in charge of the online side of an artist's line, from the catalog to the last listing update, while the artist keeps making work and doing shows.¹

Why we built it

Festival artists already run a demanding business. They make the work, haul it across the country, set up a booth and sell face to face all weekend. Selling online and wholesale asks for another full set of skills: product photos, descriptions, a website, posts, emails, listings on several marketplaces and follow-up with stores and galleries. Many artists start that work and stall, because the studio and the road come first.

Brakebee already runs the platform those tasks live on. One catalog feeds a shop, the curated marketplace, the Phoenix print lab and connectors to the big online retailers.² Managed Lines adds the people. Our team runs that platform for a small group of partner artists.

What a partner artist gets

  • a catalog built and maintained in Brakebee
  • a website on the artist's own domain, kept current
  • scheduled social posts through Social Central
  • email blasts and drips to people who signed up
  • listings on the Brakebee marketplace and channels such as Etsy, Shopify, Wayfair, Walmart, eBay, TikTok Shop and Square
  • a full wholesale division: Wholesale Market, Faire and other wholesale marketplaces, line reps, and gallery and designer sales
  • print-on-demand products from the Phoenix lab where they suit the work
  • the weekly back-end work that keeps every channel accurate¹,²

Marketing is organic, and Brakebee doesn't promise sales. The promise is steady work on the line every week.¹ Paid ads are another layer and another conversation, and Brakebee can help partners who want them.

What stays with the artist

Partner artists keep their fairs, festivals, markets and commissions. They keep the copyright to their original work, along with their name, their existing accounts and their contact lists. Brakebee owns what it builds for the line, and it stops using those things for the line if a partnership ends.¹ The full picture is in who owns what in a managed line.

Who it is for

Managed Lines suits artists who sell in person, have a body of work people already buy and would rather hand off the online side than learn to run it. Artists who enjoy running their own shop can keep using Brakebee's self-serve tools on /makers.

Starting small on purpose

Brakebee is adding partners a few at a time so each line gets hands-on attention. Artists who want to talk it over can start a partnership conversation from the Managed Lines page. The form opens with a few questions about their art, their shows and where they sell now.
