Roadrunner Oval by Dugout Creek Designs
More about this...
Out where the mesquite grows thick, a roadrunner can cover a dusty wash in a few heartbeats, then stop dead, flick its long tail and peer around as if nothing happened. It's a bird built for the ground, the color of the dry earth it hunts across. This version captures it at full speed in a finish to match: the crest flared, the tail swept back and those zygodactyl feet, two toes ahead and two behind, gripping the air.
Every roadrunner is hand-cut and treated to rust patina, a warm reddish-brown with lighter gray-tan mottling that varies from piece to piece, so no two look exactly alike. It blends with terracotta, saddle leather, barn wood and stone, and small nails, double-sided tape, velcro, or magnets handle the hanging.
Set it in a ranch house kitchen, a den with leather chairs, a guest bedroom in desert colors, or an entry by the hiking boots. A warm present for a birder, a desert transplant, or anyone with a soft spot for this speedy native of the Southwest.
Care instructions
Wipe away dust every few weeks with something soft. Heavier dirt comes clean under a lightly moistened cloth and mild glass cleaner.
